Capitalism, Buffets, Facial Recognition, RSA, Lasers, etc.

We’re Banning Facial Recognition. We’re Missing the Point.

I agree wholeheartedly with Bruce Schneier on this one. We shouldn’t make the mistake of banning something whose use is determined by the ulterior motives of the users and not the technology itself.

The tricky economics of all-you-can-eat buffets

I like how detailed this article is in terms of strategy and pricing breakdowns as they explain the low-margin, low-manpower niche of buffets.

The Enemies of Writing

Prime Number Hide-and-Seek: How the RSA Cipher Works

Not your average refresher on arithmetic, but a good insight into how the RSA cipher actually works. A good read either way even if, like me, you’re not mathematically inclined.

Still Corners - Black Lagoon

Random song from one of my favorite bands (their sound is quite unique).

Seeing Around the Corner With Lasers—and Speckle

Interesting approach using interference patterns to help deduce what’s actually there. I imagine it’ll be useful from military applications to driverless cars once the technology gets out of the lab and into the real world.
