In my opinion, a good web development strategy is one that involves both art and science. Using my site as an example, many actions are done programmatically such as looping through post types, parsing of flat-file data, pre-processing of styles, continuous deployments, and so forth.
For other things such as custom CSS styles, static page layouts, Easter eggs (yes, there are a few), UX elements, etc. there’s something to be said for doing those simply by hand.
The goal of good web design should be to strike a balance between these two paradigms, and to upkeep this careful stasis with every new addition of content (or design) that’s published.
